There are very few "standards " any more. all camcorders used to have servo zoom lenses with filter threads and auto focus, but not the Flip and Kodak Zi. as cameras become cheaper, they shed the traditional features. Not all cameras offer stereo audio. you really need to review the spec sheet before makinig a buying decision. cameras intended for television viewing generally record these pixel counts, 4:3 aspect NTSC = 480x720, PAL= 576x720, 16:9 aspect HDTV 720x1280, 1080x1440 and 1080x1920 however some camcorders produce for computer and internet viewing, so they can have any pixel count but video compression schemes generally reqire the pixel count H and V be a multiple of 16. (1080 HD is actually 1088, the extra 8 lines are encoded, but not displayed.) These are the recorded pixels, not the size of the CCD array. Having a high MP CCD makes the EIS and digital zoom more effective. Optimum CCD sizes are 680 K for NTSC, 800 K for PAL so they are native resolution when shooting widescreen. |
